WHAT IS CROSS TRAINING?
Cross training utilises different forms of exercise and equipment to improve total body conditioning.
If you only train in one area, such as cardio, then you will only improve that particular bodily system. For overall fitness and health it is important to work the whole body, thereby promoting optimal gene expression and a highly functional state of fitness.
Cross Training at Pro-Fitness implements the Primal Blueprint philosophy: move frequently at a slow pace, functional full body strength training and regular bouts of metabolic, or sprint training. This philosophy not only shapes a healthier body but also eliminates the risk of overtraining as there is a tendency is for individuals to develop chronic exercise patterns in the belief that "more is better". Quality over quantity is the better strategy by far.

The more you put in - the more you get out!
Meeting Lisa at a party she tried to convince me to join one of her fitness classes. Was I up for the challenge ???? Well, through a foggy haze due to a few glasses of red wine, I agreed to give it a go. However, the next day it dawned on me that the class was mainly attended by ladies......Oh dear, what had I let myself in for......could I use this as an excuse and duck out?
Well I plucked up the courage and went to my first Kettle bell session. What a surprise - I was welcomed with open arms by the friendly army of ladies and soon forgot I was the only male in attendance. The session was much harder than I first thought it would be, but was so enjoyable. Lively music was played throughout the session and Lisa's enthusiasm made the class enjoyable. In fact so enjoyable that I have become a regular attendee, and have now been joined by other men too, which is great!
A month or so later Lisa added 2 more classes to her schedule (Cardio Kick and Metasculpt). I decided to add Metasculpt to my weekly training schedule. This a high intensity interval training class and again Lisa makes it tough, but fun and enjoyable.
One of my main gripes with gym work and exercise classes, has been that they are geared for the male body builder and quickly become routine and boring; especially if you are not after a six-pack. I wanted to attend classes that were geared for all abilities and have an element of fun too. Lisa also ensures that your work out is suitable to your own fitness, ability and flexibility and, as a male with little or no flexibility, this is very important to me. So classes are suitable for people of all abilities, which is great news.
To sum up, Lisa has instilled an enthusiasm in me like no other fitness trainer. Her classes are enjoyable and the routines change regularly so they are never dull or boring. So if you are looking at getting fit in a "FUN" way get down to one of classes and you will not be disappointed.
As your typical nocturnal student it’s very easy to lounge around all day and not get up to do exercise. However, once I (albeit grudgingly) took myself along to Lisa’s classes I am very glad I did!
Lisa is an extremely enthusiastic and energetic teacher, characteristics that are able to fill you with motivation even through the heavy sweat! The range of classes provided are all beneficial in different ways and Lisa makes sure to change each one up every time, keeping the body guessing and ensuring each part is working hard.
And working hard you will be! Each class is fun and up-beat, but tough, and the more you put in the more you will get back. I definitely recommend going along and trying out for yourself, I’ll certainly be heading back for more!
I am an active 60 (something!) woman and enjoy a broad range of sports activities which include cycling, Pilates, tennis, ballet and skiing. A neighbour took me along to one of Lisa's classes and I was immediately hooked by her bubbly enthusiasm.
Trying to fit in additional activities was not too difficult as there are classes in either the morning or evening and therefore gives you the option to be flexible and choose a time that suits. Currently I try and do two classes a week which are cardio kick and meta sculpt. Since I started I have noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels, upper and lower body strength and general well being. This increase in overall fitness was apparent when I went skiing recently. I was amazed how fit I felt and how I was ready the next day for another day on the piste.....no aches, tiredness or pain; unlike previous years.
So thanks to Lisa for not only making the classes fun, but for also helping me to improve my overall fitness. I would certainly recommend anyone tempted to give her classes a go. Bin the carpet slippers and enjoy the fun.
“I started going to Lisa's Wednesday morning Metasculpt classes after thinking 'why not, I'll give it a go'. Admittedly though, at first, I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy them – not having done this type of exercise since school (at least a couple of decades ago). However, I needed to do something after having children and found that once I started, I loved the classes. It gives me my 'me' time and with the creche facility I know my daughter is well looked after.
I've found that the mix of cardio and strength work has improved my fitness, and what's more, I can see the progression, which spurs me on - I've found muscles I never knew existed! I like the fact that there's a range of ages and abilities that come along and everyone is friendly. You don't have to be super fit or a gym bunny or even wear Lycra - you work to your own ability and Lisa gives both high and low impact options.
Each week’s class and music is different too, so there's definitely no getting bored or planning your shopping list, the time just seems to whizz by. I find that Lisa's also great at motivating me to try my best, even when I don't necessarily feel like it (yep, everyone has times like these) and I'm always glad afterwards that I did. I leave every class feeling revitalised (though tired!) and ready to take on the rest of the day.
So why not 'give it a go', you might just love it too!”
